A comprehensive online tool to provide information on South Australia’s infrastructure has been developed to assist potential investors and bring new projects to the State.
The 'Infrastructure Channel' provides a one-stop-shop to government, industry and investors using the latest geospatial software tools.
Users can access, query and interact with geospatial data, associated reports and other documents. The resource is an entry point to pursue planning and investment opportunities relating to resource development.
South Australia continues to attract significant interest in resources development; since 2004 there has been a four-fold increase of major mines in South Australia and the $10.2 million expansion of the PACE initiative is driving further resources exploration and mining developments.
To aid such development, users can now access the infrastructure channel through DMITRE's South Australian Resources Information Geoserver (SARIG).
The channel, led by the Resources & Energy Sector Infrastructure Council (RESIC), is unique to South Australia, and designed specifically to support investment in resource infrastructure within this State.
RESIC was established in 2007 by the South Australian Government to work toward identifying integrated infrastructure that meets the future requirements of the resource and energy sectors.
The infrastructure channel project underpins RESIC’s role of adding value to private sector and government investment, development, policy planning and decision making.
In developing the channel, RESIC undertook an audit of SA’s current infrastructure incorporating road, rail, port, air, telecommunications, energy, gas and water.
This comprehensive suite of information will be collated to populate this easy-to-use online system.
A complementary Infrastructure Demand Study has also assimilated information on the current and likely future demand on SA’s infrastructure assets, the results of which are eagerly anticipated.
Together, these projects will deliver ongoing accessible, reliable and current data on the state’s infrastructure.
Through the cooperation of industry and government, support for this initiative has been received through the provision of publicly available geospatial information held within various agencies and organisations. At this time, sharing arrangements with contributing agencies have not provided for downloading of data.
