Mount Painter

The Mount Painter and Mount Babbage Inliers, in the northern Flinders Ranges, consist predominantly of Palaeoproterozoic to Mesoproterozoic metasediments and granites, and Neoproterozoic to Cambrian sediments of the Adelaide Geosyncline.

The area is abundant in mineralisation, including Uranium, Rare Earths, Copper, Gold and Base Metals.

This model was constructed using Intrepid Geophysics' 3D Geomodeller (http://www.geomodeller.com/) and displays 3D objects representing the major stratigraphic units.

Assessment of mineral prospectivity of the northern Flinders Ranges using GIS analysis
W.M. Cowley, L.F. Katona and G. Gouthas

Outlines the data sources, methods used, and the results achieved, by the Geological Survey of South Australia, Primary Industries and Resources South Australia (PIRSA), in a GIS analysis of the mineral prospectivity and geological and exploration values of the northern Flinders Ranges. The prospectivity mapping was utilised in the document "Seeking a Balance" (Department for Environment and Heritage and PIRSA, 2009), which proposes a refined management and regulatory framework for ongoing resource activities.
