SACOME treasure hunt

The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) is to celebrate the success of its inaugural Treasure Hunt – a free school holidays activity  -  with an exciting performance by Rock Chick and Science Geek together with activities, education and freebies on April 20.

The Treasure Hunt, an interactive discovery trail aimed at primary school children, will be conducted during the forthcoming April school holidays. The 2011 program features hours of entertainment in the Adelaide CBD with the opportunity to win prizes whilst learning about the mineral and energy resources sector in South Australia. Registration and more information will be available at www.sacome.org.au from mid-March.

This year, the entire hunt will be held at the University of Adelaide, and will address questions such as:  What is a resource?  Where do the minerals come from?  Who explores the land they are found in and how do we use them every day?

All children will receive a treasure map and goodie bag, have the opportunity to handle minerals in the University’s museum, and enjoy a 3D experience in the Santos 3D suite whilst exploring the university grounds.

SACOME Manager Careers Promotion, Ms Emma Hughes, says “This year we are expecting an even higher turnout than our previous hunts. Rock Chick and Science Geek are immensely popular with youngsters and their show really compliments the science nature of our event.

“Most SACOME staff assist on the day and we love seeing children having fun and learning whilst getting the opportunity to be active and explore outdoors at the same time!”

Rock Chick and Science Geek combines science with cool and quirky rock songs in an awesome show featuring bubbles and fireballs, exploding liquid nitrogen, giant smoke doughnuts and much more.
