Geoscientific GIS Datasets

Integrated data packages produced by Mineral Resources are available in ESRI (ArcView, ArcGIS) and MapInfo formats.

Each package contains:

  • Exploration Drillholes
  • Drillholes with Summary Stratigraphic Logs
  • Rock Sample and Drillhole Sample Geochemistry
  • Water Wells
  • Mines and Mineral Deposits
  • Magnetic and Gravity Raster Images
  • Digital Geology
  • Current and Historic Exploration Tenements
  • Roads and Railways
  • Localities
  • Coastline and Lakes
  • Map Sheet Boundaries
  • Parks and Reserves
  • Restricted Areas
  • CD packages contain Integrated Bibliography

Detailed digital geology - available on
the South Australia MGA GIS DVD

Note: This dataset supersedes all provincial CD datasets.

The South Australia Geoscientific GIS CD contains digital geology compiled at 1:2,000,000 scale. The provincial datasets contain digital geology at variably detailed scale. In addition, each provincial dataset contains a solid geology interpretation compiled from all available data.

Raster (e.g. magnetic, gravity) images are optimised for their area of coverage.

Documentation (metadata) is provided with each CD dataset. Documentation for the South Australia CD dataset can be downloaded here (pdf ~ 530kb).

Software Requirements

Purchasers must obtain their own software for viewing the data. The datasets are compatible with ArcGIS 8.3, ArcView 3.2a or MapInfo 7.0 or higher. ESRI’s ArcExplorer (available free of charge from the ESRI website http://www.esri.com) or MapInfo's ProViewer (available free of charge from the MapInfo website http://www.mapinfo.com) may be used for simple viewing and querying of the datasets.

Up to date GIS data layers can be downloaded through SARIG in various formats free of charge at any time.
