The Primary Industries and Resources South Australia (PIRSA) Mineral Resources Group provide a wide range of high-quality geophysical data and advice to the exploration industry and the public. For the minerals industry in particular, access to precompetitive geoscientific data reduces the risk for companies venturing to discover new prospects and deposits.
Through Government initiatives, cooperative research with other government departments and educational facilities and working with exploration companies, the Mineral Resources Group promotes mineral exploration opportunities within South Australia and facilitates access to its wealth of geoscientific data.
The Mineral Resources Group is constantly releasing new and reprocessed data for the minerals industry to access.
Exploration Initiatives
To promote mineral exploration within the state, the South Australian Government has undertaken major airborne geophysical surveys in key areas of the State as part of the South Australian Exploration Initiative (SAEI), Broken Hill Exploration Initiative (BHEI) and the Targeted Exploration Initiative South Australia (TEiSA) and, most recently, the Plan for Accelerating Exploration (PACE) Initiative.
Data collected during the course of these initiatives may be available as a free download or will be available at minimal cost, with charges generally covering PIRSA handling costs only.
The Mineral Resources Group also has a wealth of available information in the form of open file company data, data collected by PIRSA and GA (Geoscience Australia), PIRSA and company drillcore and reports. These report and drillcore databases can be accessed directly through SARIG, the South Australian Resources Information Geoserver or by contacting our Customer Services Centre.
All integrated data packages produced by the Office of Mineral and Energy Resources are available in ArcView and MapInfo formats which can be purchased through the Customer Services Centre.
Each package contains standard GIS coverages:
Provincial datasets contain digital geology compiled at variably detailed scales.
In addition, each provincial dataset contains a solid geology interpretation compiled from all available data.
Raster (e.g. magnetic, gravity) images are optimised for their area of coverage.
