Core library facilities are located at two metropolitan facilities at Glenside and Thebarton, and two unmanned facilities in the mid-north towns of Moonta (Yorke Peninsula) and Whyalla (Eyre Peninsula).

Glenside Core Library

This facility has reached its maximum capacity of 6.7 million metres of representative samples or cores and cuttings from nearly 40,140 drillholes from Petroleum, Mineral, Groundwater Investigation and Engineering sites.

An additional 433,476 metres of material is housed at other low level storage facilities such as Moonta, Whyalla and Thebarton. These represent both departmental and company exploration in South Australia. Sludge samples, rock specimens and fossils are also accommodated.

Satellite Core Libraries

Satellite Core Libraries have been established in the mid-north towns of Moonta and Whyalla. These provide convenient low level storage facilities for core and other samples obtained in mineral exploration programs on Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas, respectively.

Moonta currently stores 268,254 metres of core, mainly from mineral exploration drillholes.

Whyalla holds 64,515 metres of core, entirely from mineral exploration drillholes.

Viewing areas at Moonta and Whyalla are indoors/outdoors.

Services provided are similar to those at the main core library.

Satellite Core Library locations

Moonta: Ferguson Road
Whyalla: corner of Jacob and Storey Street

Both facilities are normally unstaffed and prior arrangement for core inspection must be made with the Manager or Assistant Manager at Glenside.
