Sustainable Communities

Sustainable Communities has a policy and a program function and is made up of Rural Affairs, FarmBis and the executive support to the Advisory Board of Agriculture and the Agricultural Bureau.

Human resource and community development are integral to achieving prosperous primary industries. A balanced approach to economic and human development is required to achieve the Primary Industries and Resources South Australia (PIRSA) corporate goal.

The effective management and development of primary industry includes management of all resources including the people and the families that are responsible for primary production in South Australia.

PIRSA works with rural communities, rural organisations, industry and rural networks on issues that relate to farm families, living and working in rural communities. The programs address the broader economic, social and adjustment needs of primary producers, their families, rural women and their communities to increase their effectiveness and autonomy.

Rural Affairs programs and projects include:

  • SA Rural Leadership Program (SARLP)
  • Community Capacity Assessment tool (CCA)
  • SA Rural Women's Gatherings and Trust
  • World Rural Women's Congress Trust
  • Women in Agriculture and Business (WAB)
  • RIRDC Rural Women's Award
  • facilitate the provision of, and access to rural information of relevance to farm families, farm communities and those who work with them
