Domestic Fowls Regulations Consultation

These draft Regulations, when gazetted, will revoke and replace Regulation 13 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Regulations, 2000. They are available for public consultation, together with a Regulatory Impact Statement, until 19 October.

The draft Regulations are based upon the decision of State, Territory and Commonwealth Agriculture Ministers in 2000 to make changes to the housing requirements of domestic fowls, in cages or in other housing systems. They have been developed by a Working Party comprising representatives from government, the layer hen and meat chicken industries and RSPCA(SA) to accurately reflect the agreements made at that time.

The draft Regulations, with a Regulatory Impact Statement explaining the animal welfare in the context of possible economic and social implications, are available below:
