Poultry Meat in SA - strategic directions
The poultry meat industry, through the SA Chicken Meat Council, has identified a number of growth targets in its strategic plan that if achieved, will see it being a signficicant contributor to South Australias economy:
Competitive business environment

Grow gross food revenue from $324m to $956m by 2015.

Capture greater than 50% of domestic consumption growth over the next decade resulting in SA representing 20% of national production.

Increase value of interstate exports from $40m to $500m by 2015.

Ensure adequate economies of scale and productivity improvements to increase cost competitiveness.
Industry people and community relationships
- Create an additional 1200 direct jobs.
- Attract, develop and retain labour within the industry.
- Engage communities and industry in meeting welfare and food safety standards through the value chain.
Industry and the environment
- Increase water use efficiencies through minimisation and re-use technologies.
- Increase value of waste streams by 20%.
- Establish and create competitive markets for waste (litter, mortalities) products.
- Ensure community standards are met for odour, noise and dust issues.
