Animal diseases that are of national concern are listed as 'notifiable' animal diseases. This means that there is a legal requirement for anyone who suspects or diagnoses a disease on the list, to immediately notify the relevent authority.
The requirement to report notifiable disease in South Australia is contained in the Livestock Act 2000. Diseases that must be notified to are given on the list of Notifiable Diseases (.PDF) provided by the Minister.
A national list of notifiable diseases and information about other state and territory notifiable lists can be found on the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry website (external site).
