The National Animal Health Information System (NAHIS) is a national program to report Australia’s animal health status to the world. The information helps meet international reporting requirements and supports export trade in animals and animal products.
NAHIS is a key national program of Animal Health Australia (AHA). Information is collected by NAHIS representatives in each state and territory, then collated and compiled for publication in the Animal Health Surveillance Quarterly by AHA.
Selected diseases are monitored regularly, supplemented by specific surveillance activities. Summary information on livestock numbers, abattoir throughput and residue surveillance is also provided.
Animal Health Australia maintains electronic copies of the Animal Health Surveillance Quarterly, the annual report, reports from the Office International des Epizooties, FAO and WHO. Information on a range of animal diseases, such as Johne's Disease, is also available.
