Stud Stock Brands

Any person who is the owner of a pure bred animal and belongs to an approved society is eligible to apply for a stud stock brand.

There are no restrictions on the type of brand used for stud stock. However, it is advisable that an applicant obtains approval from their Association before registering because most associations are national bodies and the brand may already be registered in another state.

If several breeds of animals are involved, each must be registered with its society eg if they own thoroughbreds and Arabs they must pay to register each breed. This can be difficult for people who own ponies and miniature horses as they usually have membership with more than one society with the same breeds. It is suggested to register the brand with a society that registers all ponies. eg. if they are registered with the APSB, Welsh Pony and Cob Society and Connemarra Society, register the brand with the APSB because this association registers each of these breeds. In some instances there is no alternative option and they will have to register for each association.

Pintos, Palominos and Roans are not eligible for stud stock registration because they are a colour not a breed.

The Equestrian Federation is not a breed society. Membership does not entitle applicant for eligibility to register a stud stock brand.
