In 2010-11 the livestock industries in South Australia contributed more than $4.5 billion (33%) of South Australia’s Gross Food Revenue (see below). In particular, strong growth has been evident in poultry production and processing, pork processing and red meat exports.
PIRSA Livestock develops and implements policies, legislation, regulatory frameworks and programs to grow the economic contribution of the industry.

Livestock related services, research and development
Biosecurity SA - provide services regarding animal health, disease monitoring, and property registration.
Rural Solutions SA - provide onsite business and technical advice, plus courses and benchmarking analysis.
South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) - conduct research and development on behalf of government, industry and private organisations.
