Rural Solutions SA is a business unit within Primary Industries and Resources South Australia (PIRSA), providing specialised consultancy services in agriculture, agribusiness and natural resource management.
SARDI is the SA Government's principal research and development capability, delivering innovation to enhance the food, fibre and bioscience industries and living environmental systems in southern Australia.
The AAA FarmBis program has been established to contribute to Australian and South Australian Government's long-term vision of competitive, profitable and sustainable agricultural business enterprises; primary producers and rural land managers that are self-reliant and are equipped to manage change and adjustment through a culture of ongoing learning and continuous improvement; and enhanced sustainability of Australia's natural resource base.
Biosecurity Strategy
Plant Health biosecurity programs have a focus on protection of South Australia’s A$480 million horticulture industries, and addresses declared plant pests and diseases such as fruit fly, locusts and phylloxera. The unit is responsible for implementing and monitoring plant biosecurity management arrangements, such as the movement of material into and out of SA through surveillance at border roadblocks, and plant pest surveillance, through early detection mechanisms and crop surveys.
A major component of PIRSA's plant biosecurity arrangements is the A$3million SA fruit fly prevention program. Import regulations and verification, early detection, surveillance and communication strategies have assisted in reducing fruit fly outbreaks in SA over the past six years, protecting market access and allowing expansion into new markets.
More information about PIRSA's plant health biosecurity programs can be found in the Plant Health site.
South Australian Food Centre
The South Australian Food Centre is the principal service delivery arm for the State Food Plan. It is an innovative partnership between food industry organisations and government agencies to provide a 'one stop shop' for food companies who want to grow their businesses. The Food Centre provides the 'collaborative infrastructure' that enables people to work together to continue to develop an innovative and internationally competitive food industry in South Australia.
The aim of this site is to provide the primary industry sector with food safety information. For information about public health or consumer food safety issues visit the Department of Health.
In 1997 the South Australian Premier implemented a strategy to expand the revenue generated by the South Australian Food Industry to $15 billion by the year 2010. As part of achieving this goal, the Food South Australian Program introduced a ScoreCard to measure and evaluate the value of the contribution made by food and beverage to the economy, through the value chain from production to consumption.
