Permits required for horse movements

MEDIA RELEASE

Sunday, 26 August 2007

People wanting to move horses during the current stock stand still must apply to PIRSA Animal Health.

Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr Rob Rahaley, said that the current national stock stand still would apply until midday 28 August.

“The stand still was agreed to by all states and territories in order to reduce the risk of equine influenza following the detection of the disease in NSW,” he said.

“However, if horse owners need to move their horses within this time frame, then they can apply for permits.

“Each request will be assessed and a decision made based on the risk involved.”

People wanting more information about disease can contact the Equine Influenza Information line on 1800 234 002.

People wanting to apply for permits to move stock can contact the Emergency Animal Disease hotline on 1800 675 888.
