Advice for Industry & Recreational Riders

Urgent for all Veterinarians

Ongoing surveillance for equine influenza (.PDF) is essential for proof of freedom.

Veterinarians who examine any horse with respiratory signs are asked to collect nasal swabs for EI exclusion testing. EI exclusion testing protocol (.DOC)

The sampling protocol includes the need for the veterinarian to complete an ANEMIS Inspection Form 1 (.PDF) in addition to an original Gribbles production animal submission form.

Vets should remain on high alert for equine influenza and if a property visit is to investigate a suspect case of equine influenza vets must notify PIRSA Animal Health immediately on 1800 675 888 or 8207 7900.

Thorough equipment and personal decontamination should take place when leaving each property. Guidelines on equine influenza property visits (.PDF)
