Australia has been declared free of equine influenza. There have been no new cases of horse flu in Australia since December 2007.

PIRSA has eased requirements regarding efforts to keep South Australia free of horse flu. Read the Media Release, 1 July 2008

Changes from 1 July 2008

  • Horse Health Statements will no longer be required for animals being brought into SA from New South Wales and Queensland.
  • There will be no paperwork needed for movements of horses, products, equipment or vehicles into  South Australia from any state or territory.

Ongoing Recommendations

  • Event organisers are encouraged to register their event or activities. EFA Affiliate members please register via www.sa.equestrian.org.au. All other events should be registered on the Horse SA website www.horsesa.asn.au.
  • Event organisers should keep a record of the names and contact details of people participating in the activities.
  • It is recommended that you check with each jurisdiction you are travelling into or through on their requirements.

It is important that PIRSA has quick access to information about horse events and activities being conducted in case PIRSA needs to trace horse movements. The peak horse groups in SA (Equestrian Federation of Australia, SA Branch and Horse SA) have taken on the responsibility for event registration.
