Grains Industry Development has responsibility for the Wheat Marketing Act 1989.
Grains Industry Development also has an interest in the Genetically Modified Crops Management Act 2004 (See GM Crops pages)
The Wheat Marketing Act 1989 (external site) is largely redundant legislation as the need to support the federal government wheat marketing arrangements has changed with the new Wheat Export Marketing Act 2008 establishing a new wheat exporter accreditation scheme, replacing the bulk wheat export single desk. The remaining sole purpose for the Wheat Marketing Act 1989 is in authorising the collection of the grain reseach fund (administered by the South Australian Grains Industry Trust- SAGIT) and the grains industry fund (SAFF Grains Section Fund) (see SAFF and SAGIT pages here).

The expired Barley Exporting Act 2007 repealed the Barley Marketing Act 1993 allowing an orderly staged transition to a fully unregulated barley exporting industry. The Barley Exporting Act 2007 expired on 30 June 2010 allowing unregulated barley marketing and export from South Australia. Growers now have greater choice of grain marketers able to access the barley export market.
