PIRSA Grains Industry Development group prepare an update report on grains and pastures in South Australia.
The Grains Industry Group works within the Agriculture, Food and Wine Division of PIRSA. The Agriculture, Food and Wine Division develops and implements policies, legislation, regulatory frameworks and programs to promote an optimal business, natural and social environment within which primary industries can prosper.
The Grains Industries Group is focused on whole-of-chain sustainable industry development and is responsible in a partnership arrangement with the relevant industries for the development and implementation of strategic plans for the grains industry. The Grains Industries Group supports these plans through core industry development projects.
The Grains Industries Group provides leadership across PIRSA and other Government departments on policy advice, collaborative infrastructure and programs to implement strategic imperatives in order to realise the full potential of the grains industries' contribution to the State economy. This involves working closely with corporations and a wide range of industry stakeholders, facilitating the partnership between Government and industry through the development of effective and long-term working relationships. The strategic imperatives will reflect and contribute to the long-term, sustainable future goals within the South Australian Strategic Plan, Food Plan, Export Plan and the Natural Resource Management Plan and contribute to the long-term, sustainable future goals of the State.

Grains Industry Group works closely with other PIRSA agencies such as SARDI and Rural Solutions SA, other government agencies such as CSIRO, Department of Health, Department of Transport, Energy and Infrastructure, Department of Environment and Heritage, Department of Water, Land, Biodiversity and Conservation, Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology, Department of Premier and Cabinet and Department of Industry and Trade. Additionally the group works with a wide range of industry participants such as SA Farmers Federation (Grains Council), Grains Research and Development Association, ABB, AWB, grain processors and various research and development organisations.
Rural Solutions SA is responsible for the provision of advice and consultancy services to farmers and industry, and managing laboratory services eg Seed Services.
SARDI provides essential research on new crop varieties, and diagnostic services in crop pathology and entomology.
