Licence Register

Provision of a public register is part of a strategy to demonstrate that there is transparency and accountability in the decision-making processes.

Section 115 and 116 of the Petroleum Act and s. 76 of the South Australian Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act require that a Public Register of licences be established for public inspection. These sections are intended to provide the means that will aid stakeholders in determining whether the regulatory objectives of the Petroleum Act have been met.

Section 115 of the Petroleum Act specifies that the following data be contained in the Public Register:

  • the terms and conditions of each licence issued under the Petroleum Act
  • the name of the licensee
  • an accurate description of the licence area or in the case of a pipeline licence, the route of the pipeline
  • a note of any registrable dealing affecting the licence
  • any other information (other than commercially sensitive information) the Minister for Mineral Resources Development considers appropriate to the public register.
