Lesson Plan - Let's Read About Forests

Task

  • Read picture books together to learn more about the topic of Forests and Forestry.
  • Students are to participate in their own learning through reading both non-fiction and fiction books on the topic.

Key Learning Areas

  • Studies of Society and the Environment.
  • English and Language.

Resources needed

  • Non-fiction and fiction texts.
  • Wide variety of fiction and non-fiction texts to share as a whole class.
  • Book list.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will be able to extend their understanding and experiences of forests and forestry.
  • Students will learn by looking at and reading picture books about forests.

Lesson Layout

  • As a whole group read some of the texts from the resource list.
  • Discuss the content of the books.
  • Break up into small groups, each sharing a book.
  • Ask each group to report back to the class three things they found out about forests from their text.
