Using a range of excellent picture books, this unit explores South Australia's forests as open spaces people use for recreation and leisure. Students investigate the natural and human components of forests as well as the groups involved in their establishment, maintenance and use. |

Primary Section |
Using a range of strategies across learning areas, this unit focuses on trees in forests and other environments. Students discover the general benefits and uses of trees. Students are encouraged to explore trees in native forests, plantation forests and in their local area. |

Middle Years |
In this unit students investigate what forests provide and why South Australia's forests, the natural habitats and the timber produced from them are vital for forest animals, industries and people. Students are encouraged to explore sustainable forest management and contact foresters and rangers who are involved in the maintenance and management of forests in South Australia. |
