AIMS:
To assess the area of weed control necessary in the first year to get the best growth of Eucalyptus globulus on sites receiving different amounts of rainfall.
DISCUSSION:
The first trial site was established on a wet soil type which flooded during the first two years of establishment. As such seedling survival and subsequent growth rates were impacted in some plots due to environmental factors not related to the effectiveness or pattern of weed control. The abandonment of one site due to excessive seedling losses from vermin attack and sand blasting and the impact of flooding at the first site meant that a definitive result could not be reported
from this trial. However, a pattern of increased growth with increasing weed free areas is evident.
CONCLUSIONS:
• There is a trend of increasing tree growth with increasing weed free treatment area.
• No definitive result can be recorded for this trial due to the impact of flooding, sand blasting
and vermin damage.
