Eucalyptus globulus Spacing Trial

AIMS: To determine the optimum stocking rate for establishment of commercial plantations of Eucalyptus globulus in the Green Triangle region

CONCLUSIONS:
Across a range of soil rainfall zones, no particular stocking rate proved to be significantly better for V7 volume production. The most limiting factor for volume production between sites was rainfall. Tree losses occured at all sites across all stocking treatments throughout the measurement period of this trial. Contributing factors were insect attack, wet feet, drought and competition between trees.

RECOMMENDATIONS
No single recommendation based upon planting stocking rates for optimum growth can be made. Stocking rates as low as 1111 trees/ha can be used to reduce establishment costs without compromising volume production.
