AIM:
To assess the long term effect of ripping and mounding on the growth of Eucalyptus globulus on a variety of sites.
CONCLUSIONS:
1. Results from this trial indicate that mounds 0.5m high by 1.2m wide provided lasting and significant growth benefits on the wetter site. Marginal benefits were also observed on the drier site however the differences were not statistically significant, except for survival. Whether larger mounds would provide a benefit at the drier sites remains untested.
2. Ripping to a depth of 50cm provided no significant benefit at either site.
3. The ripping treatments in this trial were inadequate and do not reflect current practices. If further investigation into the benefit of ripping is considered useful establishment of another trial using deeper ripping treatments is recommended.
