AIMS:
To determine the early fertiliser requirements of Tasmanian blue gum on a variety of sites specifically:
a) to screen different fertiliser products at planting and to use this knowledge to design fertiliser prescriptions for later applications, and
b) to examine the interaction between fertiliser applied in each of the first three springs after planting.
CONCLUSIONS:
• There was no evidence of any constant response to the application of fertiliser at establishment (Year 0). This indicates that nutrition was not the most limiting factor to survival and growth at this time.
• There was evidence of a growth response following fertiliser application in Year 1 at sites B and C and evidence of a growth response following fertiliser application in Year 2 at site A.
• There was no distinct pattern to the impact of the timing, rate, type or frequency of fertiliser application across sites.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Due to the lack of constancy of results across sites in this trial it is not possible to make any recommendations based upon the results of this report.
