Forest Health

It is critical to the productivity and health of South Australia's forests that pests and diseased are monitored and issues addressed when they occur.  PIRSA Forestry promotes and reports strategies between industry, government and the community to maintain forest health.

PIRSA Forestry seeks to protect and improve the health of forests in South Australia by:

  • Supporting national strategies for managing the incursion of exotic pests, diseases and weeds as outlined in the national and state Biosecurity Strategies and the National Weed Strategy. These include the early detection and rapid response to new incursions that have the potential to affect forests and/or plantations.
  • Promoting improved management practices to reduce the impact of existing pest, disease and weed problems in forests through integrated management practices
  • Working with the forest industry, government and the community to manage pest and disease.

If the introduction of an exotic pest in a forest plantation is suspected, or any activity that contravenes South Australian quarantine laws, BiosecuritySA: Emergency Management must be notified via the Emergency Plant Pests Hotline: 1800 084 881
