EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

AIMS:

To determine what rate of glyphosate is required to kill coppice emerging from cut Eucalyptus occidentalis stumps.

To investigate whether coppice spraying treatments has ill-effects upon neighbouring retained E. occidentalis trees.

CONCLUSIONS:

Treatment of E. occidentalis coppice foliage with Nufarm Weedmaster Duo Salt® (glyphosate 360 g/L) at rates between 6 and 12 L/ha had no negative effects to neighbouring retained E. occidentalis trees that were as close as 2 m to treated coppiced stumps.

The lowest treatment rate of 6 L/ha Nufarm Weedmaster Duo Salt® (glyphosate 360 g/L) trialled had achieved the highest level of stump kill.

There is scope for further studies into the minimal leaf area required for chemical absorption to translocate chemical for effective stump kill, and into lower treatment rates of Nufarm Weedmaster Duo Salt® (glyphosate 360 g/L).

RECOMMENDATIONS:

A treatment rate of 6 L/ha Nufarm Weedmaster Duo Salt® (glyphosate 360 g/L) with a spray volume of 300 L/ha should be applied to E. occidentalis stump coppice foliage when all primary shoots have surfaced and are approximately 1.0 to 1.5 m in height.
