Screening Herbicides for Control of Post Fire Germinates of Sollya (Billardiera heterophylla), in Native Vegetation, within the Green Triangle Region of South Australia

AIMS:
To examine the use of herbicides to control post fire germinates of Sollya (Billardiera heterophylla) in native vegetation of the Green Triangle Region, of South Australia.

CONCLUSIONS:
• At treatment plus 6 months there was no statistical significant difference in live Sollya groundcover percentages between the nil control and any other treatment.
• Weedmaster® Duo at rates up to 4 L/ha of product plus Pulse penetrant applied at 0.2% of tank mix did not provide an effective level of juvenile Sollya control.
• Clomac at 800 g/ha plus Pulse penetrant at 0.2% of tank mix did not provide an effective level of juvenile Sollya control.
• Hotshot® at 0.75 L/ha plus Pulse penetrant at 0.2% of tank mix did not provide an effective level of juvenile Sollya control.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
• Current best practice of spot spraying small sollya with high rates of glyphosate (6 – 9 L/ha of 360 glyphosate or equivalent) in combination with cut stump chemical applications of mature plants in native vegetation is reaffirmed.
• Further trials utilising different methods of control should be carried out as they become available.
