A resource survey was undertaken in 1998 to determine the radiata pine resource in the Upper South East. This included mapping the areas of radiata pine and modeling the potential volume of logs in private plantations into the future. This survey produced maps of the area of plantations in each hundred within the Upper South East and the age class of this area. The age class distribution is also produced to highlight that there have been considerable areas of radiata pine established since 1994.
