Plantation forestry has been in this region for over a hundred years. Radiata pine plantations occupy a significant area and provide numerous socio-economic benefits for the region. There is a concentration of harvesting and processing services in this area, which is ideal for the farm forester, particularly for those that grow radiata pine.
Recent years have seen a substantial increase in Tasmanian blue gum plantations in the region. This, combined with the proximity to the Port of Portland and processing facilities, will enable farm foresters with suitable plantations to find a market for their timber.
