Farm forestry is the planting and growing of trees to complement agricultural systems. Farm forestry is also known as agroforestry. The products of farm forestry that trees provide includes shade, shelter, timber, biodiversity, erosion control, reduced dryland salinity, carbon sequestration, firewood, nectar and pollen.
PIRSA Forestry supports farm forestry activities across South Australia, particularly in the Upper South East, Lower South East, Mount Lofty Ranges and Kangaroo Island. This includes support for farm foresters and the development of planting trials and demonstration sites in a number of locations.
PIRSA Forestry also provides funding to Private Forestry Development Plantation Committees in the Green Triangle, Mount Lofty Ranges and on Kangaroo Island. These committees support the development of an innovative and sustainable timber resource for the long term economic, social and environmental benefit for their regions.
A wide range of farm forestry Fact Sheets can be found in the Publications Index.
