Improving Road Transport for Forestry

The Improving Road Transport for Forestry Project identified transport issues affecting the forestry sector across South Australia.

The survey targeted those working in road transport and related to the forest industry. It highlighted impediments to road freight productivity along the forest and forest products supply chain, including the movement of machinery in all forest production areas of the state.

Survey results

The survey identified 32 issues from across the forestry industry, with some already resolved. Responses included suggestions for:

  • infrastructure improvements
  • changes to specific intersections
  • wider considerations for productivity gains
  • workforce strategies
  • improvements to permit application processes.

Approximately 80% of the industry has contributed via the survey and other road transport consultation processes – 67% of the issues related to route access and first/last mile issues.
