Second Rotation?

Previous

Index

If a grower wants to re-establish a new tree crop after the first rotation, the main decisions to be made include:

  • change of species or new genetics?
  • use of coppice or seedlings?
  • retention and management of first rotation slash across the site to maintain nutrients on the site.

If a second rotation is not pursued it is important that the grower recognises that conversion to a different land use may be expensive, especially if complete stump removal is required.
