The Strategic Action Plan will guide government food safety activities in the SA primary industry sector until 2005. It provides an overview of the SA food safety system, recent initiatives and actions planned for the next two years.

SA Government Response to the Food Safety Risk Profile of Primary Industries in SA
South Australia has a food production system that provides safe, high quality food. To maintain this high standard government and industry are always seeking to improve the system. As part of this process, the Department of Primary Industries and Resources (PIRSA) commissioned Dr John Sumner to provide an independent risk profile of potential food safety risks from the primary industry sector in South Australia.
The purpose of the report was to assist government to identify possible significant public health risks originating from the South Australian primary industry sector and suggest preliminary risk mitigation strategies.

SA government commissioned an independent Risk Profile on the SA primary industry sector by Dr John Sumner.
The final report was received in June 2002.

A study completed in June 2002 has shown that SA`s meat hygiene and food safety standards have improved since PIRSA`s Meat Hygiene Program was implemented in 1994.
