Applications for registration of recreational rock lobster pots will be accepted by PIRSA Fisheries from 1 August each year until 31 May the following year. But you don’t need to rush to apply as there is no limit to the overall total number of registrations that can be granted so you can leave it until nearer the start of the season to put in your application.
The following conditions apply:
- You must be over 15 years of age
- Only one registration can be issued per person, with a maximum of two rock lobster pots per person
- Registrations must be renewed each year (there are separate forms for first-time registration and renewal of registrations) You must pay the correct fee at the time of application

Completed application forms should be faxed, posted or delivered to any local Fisheries office (or the PIRSA offices at Murray Bridge or Struan).
Please allow seven working days for the processing and delivery of your registration.
Within this time you will receive a:
- registration certificate (which will expire at the end of the rock lobster season)
- voluntary catch and effort return form (to help ensure the continued sustainability of the rock lobster fishery)
- recreational rock lobster fishing brochure
- rock lobster measuring gauge
- registration tag for each pot registered - your pot(s) can only be used if the tag is attached to the top of the rope near the red floating buoy.
Lost tags
If you lose a tag:
- the pot must be immediately removed from the water
- report the loss to FISHWATCH on 1800 065 522 (freecall, 24 hours).
FISHWATCH will send you an application form to apply for a replacement tag, or you can download a copy of the application form.
You will need to pay a fee of $22.50 for each replacement tag.
