The enormous popularity of recreational fishing can contribute to the decline of fish stocks and the destruction of fish breeding areas.
Recognition of the need for more sustainable fishing practices and an agreed national standard for recreational fishing led to the development of a National Code of Practice.
The code addresses four main areas of fishing responsibility:
This code is a voluntary agreement, developed by the 14 national and state fishing member associations that form Recfish Australia (external site), the Australian Recreational and Sport Fishing Industry Confederation Incorporated.
By following these twelve principles – and not following unacceptable practices – you can help ensure that we can all fish for generations to come.
