Permits and exemptions
Permits and exemptions are required to undertake some activities that would otherwise be illegal under the Fisheries Management Act 2007. Forms to apply for these permits and exemptions can be downloaded here.
You will need to apply for a permit if you want to:
You can apply for an exemption if you want to:
- undertake activities that would not usually be allowed (for example take undersize fish, use particular gear) – general application
- collect fish for broodstock
- undertake activities for research purposes
- undertake removal or interferance activities with animal or plants inside an aquatic reserve.
Following the Policy Directive Waiver of Application Fees, certain applicants can apply for an exemption from having to pay the application fee or for a reduction in the fee. These applications are considered on a case by case basis by the Director of Fisheries.
