Plant Health

The role  of the Biosecurity SA Plant Health program is to reduce the risk of emergency plant pests affecting fruit and vegetable industries in South Australia by:

  • ensuring early detection of fruit fly in South Australia and eradicating any fruit fly outbreaks efficiently and effectively
  • minimising the chances of declared pests and disease entering South Australia through high level compliance and surveillance
  • ensuring that commercial horticultural produce complies with current legislation and standards, including the requirements of the Plant Health Act 2009 and the South Australian Plant Quarantine Standard.

Biosecurity SA Plant Health consists of Plant Health Operations and the Plant Health Policy Unit, providing the vehicle for managing plant biosecurity in South Australia.
