Fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) is a destructive bacterial pest of apples and pear trees.
Fire blight infection can devastate fruit production through blossom, shoot, limb, fruit and sometimes complete tree death.

Biosecurity SA is reviewing quarantine issues in key apple growing regions throughout South Australia to protect apple and pear orchards from the risk of fire flight.
This important initiative is to protect South Australia's $90 million apple industry, and support the state's 120 apple producers.
Fire blight is a bacterial disease that affects apple and pear trees. Currently, South Australia is free of fire blight.
A period of industry consultation is currently underway, which will be followed by a community awareness program, including new roadside signs, farm gate signs and advertisements.
