Meat Hygiene

The Meat Hygiene Unit sits within the Biosecurity division of Primary Industries and Resources SA.

It applies legislation, verification and food safety initiatives that promotes and improves food safety in meat resulting in better food hygiene outcomes, ongoing consumer and industry confidence and enhanced market access.

The Unit is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Primary Produce (Food Safety Schemes) (Meat Industry) Regulations 2006 which is known as the Meat Food Safety Scheme.  Depending on the type of business you operate, the Scheme may apply.  For detailed information visit "Does the meat scheme apply to you?"
