Primary Industries and Regions South Australia (PIRSA) has a diverse range of responsibilities including agriculture, horticulture, aquaculture, fisheries, and forestry policy. Consequently, PIRSA must be prepared to respond to any emergency that impacts on these areas.
Under current emergency management arrangements, PIRSA has both state and national obligations for responding to animal and plant disease emergencies that have been agreed with stakeholders.
In accordance with the State plan, PIRSA will assist other agencies for fire, flood, earthquake and other emergencies which affect primary producers.
Quick reporting is the key to preventing a major outbreak of a pest or disease that could seriously affect our animal and horticultural industries.
