Vertebrate Pests Committee

The Vertebrate Pests Committee (VPC) is an Australasian committee whose role is to provide coordinated policy and planning solutions to pest animal issues. The VPC is also responsible for implementing the Australian Pest Animal Strategy (APAS).

VPC operates in accordance with Terms of Reference defined by the Natural Resources Management Standing Committee and reports to it through the National Biosecurity Committee. Each state and the Australian Government have membership on the VPC, and the Invasive Animals CRC, Bureau of Rural Sciences and others have Official Observer status.

The VPC – Pest Fish Working Group
VPC convenes a number of Technical Working Groups to advise it on technical matters. This includes the Vertebrate Pest Committee – Pest Fish Working Group.

The group:

  • provides the VPC with advice on freshwater fish pests,
  • promotes coordination and collaboration across states on research and management programs,
  • promotes freshwater fish pest and related issues to key stakeholders, and
  • maintains links with other key groups.
