The National Animal Health Information System (NAHIS) is a program coordinated by Animal Health Australia (AHA). It provides timely and accurate summary information on Australia's animal health status to support trade in animal commodities and meet Australia's international reporting obligations. It also provides information on Australia's capabilities and activities with regard to animal disease surveillance and control.
The principle objective of the information system is to provide accurate information, through monitoring and surveillance, on animal health in Australia. Although this information can be used for a variety of purposes, it is particularly important in the areas of disease reporting, trade and market access. The type of data collected will change according to the requirements of the users of the system.
Information collected by NAHIS representatives in each state and territory is collated and compiled for publication in the Animal Health Surveillance Quarterly by AHA. The Animal Health Surveillance Quarterly provides a topical summary of animal health matters. It is available in pdf format and may be distributed freely. Acknowledgement is requested for any information used. Please email AHSQ@animalhealthaustralia.com.au to subscribe to the Animal Health Surveillance Quarterly.
AHA publishes an annual Animal Health in Australia report, which provides an annual overview of animal health in Australia. Copies of this may be obtained at: http://www.animalhealthaustralia.com.au/status/ahia.cfm
