Property Identification Code (PIC) application
SCAHLS (Sub-Committee on Animal Health Laboratory Standards)
NLIS sheep and goat ear devices (tags) are accredited tags for sheep or goats containing the Property Identification Code (PIC) and the NLIS logo on one side. The producer can put their name, property name or a number on the other side.
All sheep and goats must be tagged with an NLIS accredited breeder or post breeder tag as outlined below.
The breeder tag is a tag for sheep and goats still on their property of birth. The choice of colours is shown in the table below and the use of the year of birth colour is strongly recommended.
| Year | Colour | |
|---|---|---|
| Breeder tags | 2010 | Orange |
| 2011 | Light green | |
| 2012 | Purple | |
| 2013 | Yellow | |
| 2014 | Red | |
| 2015 | Blue | |
| 2016 | Black | |
| 2017 | White | |
| Post breeder tags | Pink |
The post breeder tag is a pink tag for sheep and goats that have moved from their property of birth. This includes those that have lost their original breeder tag, or where the original PIC is unable to be recorded on the National Vendor Declaration (NVD).
To obtain NLIS sheep and goat tags contact a preferred tag supplier (PDF 80.8 KB) or rural merchandise outlet.
Only NLIS approved tags are permitted.
Producers must show evidence of their PIC number when ordering NLIS sheep and goat tags.
