Oliver Halliday

News has recently reached Adelaide that Oliver ‘son’ Halliday died in Bundaberg, Queensland at the age of 99 years and 7 months.

Son Halliday was an Officer in the Department from 1936 to 1954.  He spent many years as Manager of the Berri Experimental Orchard before coming to Head Office as the senior horticultural adviser.  He played a significant role in the establishment of the War Service Land Settlement areas at Loxton, Cooltong and Loveday.  With Keith Northcote he developed the first soil use criteria for horticultural crops in the Riverland and thereby paved the way for the successes of these WSLS area.

His kindly, gentle nature will be remembered by all of the staff who had the pleasure of working with him.
